The Pioneer Award is given annually to an individual or research group in the Human Sciences that conducts scientifically innovative research or opens up a new research path.

This year, the prize was awarded to Prof Lieve Watteeuw and the team of the Book Heritage Lab and VIEW, for their pioneering research on medieval miniatures with new laboratory techniques, particularly on the Anjou Bible. Lieve Watteeuw is a member of staff and associate researcher at Illuminare. In 2010, together with the study centre, she curated the exhibition ‘The Bible of Anjou, a Royal Manuscript Revealed’ at Museum M.
