Leuven, 2002: Medieval Mastery. Book illumination from Charlemagne to Charles the Bold (800-1475)
This exhibition displayed close to one hundred illuminated manuscripts of the highest quality, made between 800 and 1475, in the area between the Rhine and the North Sea. They came from 33 American and European collections and were divided into four periods, each with its own characteristics, forms of expression, and functions. The exhibition focused on the artistic character of the miniatures and took into account the shifts in the centres of illuminated art production.
