Dr Brigitte Dekeyzer

Brigitte Dekeyzer (1966) holds a doctorate in Art History and a license in Philosophy. From 1994 to 2002 she was teaching assistant for group tutorials in Art History and Musicology, and tutor to first-year undergraduates. Since then she has held a postgraduate research award from the Catholic University of Leuven (K.U.Leuven). As of the 2004-2005 academic year she is coordinator of academic teacher training in Archaeology, Art History and Musicology. She teaches Art History tutorial methods, a part of the Teacher Training seminar in Art History, supplementary teaching practice. She is also responsible for assessing teaching practice and lesson observation in Museums.

Her research focuses on 15th and 16th-century illumination and related panel painting. She has produced several publications, lectures in Belgium and beyond, and gives guest lectures and courses on illumination. She is also actively involved in the preparation of exhibitions, including: Royal Luxury and Devotion. The Mayer van den Bergh Breviary (Antwerp, Museum Mayer van den Bergh, 2004), Margaret of York and Margaret of Austria (Mechelen, as part of the ‘City in Female Hands’ project, 2005) and Imaging Brabant:Rogier van der Weyden (ca. 1398-1464) and his contemporaries (Leuven, Museum Vander Kelen-Mertens, 2009).
