Joris Van Grieken
In 2001 Joris Van Grieken (1978) graduated in Art History with the thesis Fernand Khnopff als ‘costumier’ van de Muntschouwburg (1903-1914), which shed light on one of the less well known aspects of the multifaceted oeuvre of the Belgian Symbolist – his activity as set and costume designer for theatre and opera. After an intermezzo in the art trade he returned to Leuven, where he is currently working on a doctoral thesis as part of a joint Flemish-Dutch project supported by the Fund for Scientific Research – Flanders. This research project, supervised by Jan Van der Stock (K.U.Leuven) and Jos Koldeweij (K.U.Nijmegen), focuses on the late-16th and 17th-century reception of Hieronymus Bosch and early Netherlandish painting, taking the reproductions of that period as a starting point.
