Master S and His Workshop

Digitised documentation on the early 16th century engraver Master S and his workshop has been organised by Jan Jansen along the 460 Hollstein catalogue items (Vol. 13).

Images, when available, and references to scientific literature are included for each engraving. Moreover, 136 engravings not cited by Hollstein have been documented and integrated into Hollstein’s catalogue. The Life of Christ engravings Hollstein 22-78 have been identified as intended for and used in a Vita Christi Picture Rosary manuscript. This research is reflected in an unpublished article, that also treats the use of these engravings in other manuscripts and discusses the possibility of the Life of Christ engravings Hollstein 79-124 also being a picture rosary.
